About Us

Who Is "Kids Teaching Kids"?

Around April of 2020, students began attending school online. And while working from the comfort of home had its perks, the amount of education a child received decreased. It wasn't the same.

So, a few teenagers gathered to make a small difference. Every Friday, just for an hour, they'd have two lessons for little five or six-year-olds to enjoy. Over time, the number of teachers increased, as did the number of students.

We chose the name "Kids Teaching Kids" because, well, we're not exactly professionals. But we work to achieve our goal of creating an engaging and educational learning experience for young kids. We simplify complex topics to make learning both fun and effective, ensuring every child can benefit from our resources.

Currently, we offer a variety of courses in areas like writing, biology, and math. These classes are designed to provide valuable student learning resources in an engaging format. We welcome you to experience our classes and discover if they're the right fit for your learning journey.

We hope to see you there,
The Kids That Teach Kids 💙

Troubleshooting & Debug Guide

Having trouble joining or using the classroom? Follow these steps to diagnose and fix common issues.

🌐
Checking browser...
We recommend using the latest version of Chrome, Edge, or Firefox for the best experience.

✅ Pre-Flight Checklist

Run these checks before joining a class to ensure everything works.

? Test your microphone

Make sure your microphone is plugged in and not muted. Click the button below to test — you should see the bar move when you speak.

No sound? Check that your mic isn't physically muted, and that your browser has mic permission (look for the camera/mic icon in the address bar).

? Test your camera

Check that your camera works. Click the button below — you should see yourself on screen.

? Check your internet connection

Video calls need a stable internet connection. A minimum of 1 Mbps upload/download is recommended.

Try these quick fixes if your connection is slow:

  • Close other tabs and apps that use the internet (streaming, downloads, etc.)
  • Move closer to your Wi-Fi router
  • Use a wired Ethernet connection if possible
  • Restart your router if the connection drops entirely

❓ Common Issues & Solutions

! "Cannot access camera/microphone" error

Cause: Your browser doesn't have permission to access your camera or microphone.

Solutions:

  • Click the lock/camera icon in your browser's address bar (top-left of screen)
  • Change "Camera" and "Microphone" settings to Allow
  • Reload the page and try again
  • If using Chrome: go to chrome://settings/content/camera and check permissions
  • Make sure no other app (Zoom, Discord, etc.) is using your camera/mic
  • On Windows: check Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera and Microphone
  • On macOS: check System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera/Microphone
! Video or audio is choppy / freezing

Cause: Usually a slow or unstable internet connection.

Solutions:

  • Close bandwidth-heavy apps (streaming, large downloads, video games)
  • Switch from Wi-Fi to a wired Ethernet connection
  • Move closer to your Wi-Fi router
  • Ask others in the class to turn off their cameras if not needed
  • Try restarting your router
! Can't hear others / Others can't hear me

Solutions:

  • Check that you're not muted (look for the mic icon in the meeting controls)
  • Check your system volume and speaker output
  • Make sure the correct microphone/speaker is selected in the Jitsi toolbar
  • Try unplugging and re-plugging your headset
  • Leave and rejoin the class
! "Class code not found" when joining

Cause: The code might be expired, typed incorrectly, or not yet created.

Solutions:

  • Double-check the code with your teacher — it's 6 characters (letters and numbers)
  • Codes are case-insensitive, so ABC123 is the same as abc123
  • Teachers must generate a new code for each class session
  • Contact your teacher or email ktkacton@gmail.com for help
! The meeting won't load / blank screen

Solutions:

  • Refresh the page and try joining again
  • Try a different browser (Chrome, Edge, or Firefox work best)
  • Disable browser extensions that might block scripts (ad blockers, privacy tools)
  • Check that your browser is up to date
  • Clear your browser cache and cookies
  • If using a school or corporate network, it might block Jitsi — try using a personal network or contacting your IT department
! How to update my browser

Chrome: Click the three dots → Help → About Google Chrome → it will auto-update

Edge: Click the three dots → Help and feedback → About Microsoft Edge → auto-updates

Firefox: Click the hamburger menu → Help → About Firefox → auto-updates

Safari: Updates come through macOS System Updates

⚠️ Important: Internet Explorer is not supported. Use Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari.
